In other news, the Island Bay School Chess Club is humming in the Learning Hub on Tuesday mornings before school with some nail biting finishes always guaranteed! Do pop in to observe a game or two, watching is a great way to learn how to play if interested! The Learning Hub has also been very busy during the "Parent Time" 9am - 9:30am time slot. It is so lovely to see so many parents taking up the invitation to pop in for a coffee, read the paper & catch up with friends.
Staying healthy is a big topic, so with the help of Emma's class we unpacked what that actually means. We talked about eating healthy food, drinking lots of water, not eating too much sugar, exercise, getting enough sleep & the importance of rest. We then wrapped it all up by making the most delicious fruit kebabs ever made! I've really been enjoying the number of children who have been running up to me in the playground to tell me how they are staying healthy & what delicious 5 + fruits & vegetables they have been eating.
Our beautiful sunflowers have provided so much joy in so many ways this year. Not only are the monarch butterflies in love with them, but so are the bees! Ximena's year 5 maths group are looking at fibonacci sequences and the golden ratio in relation to our sunflowers as well. Thanks again to Ken & Avie for such beautiful learning resources!
Sadly, we picked the last of our school garden summer crops the other day, but on the bright side we are already thinking about what we will plant for the next season. I am hoping that our grant application will be successful in the coming months enabling us to build a therapy garden with raised garden beds - fingers crossed!
Lastly and by no means least, I am moved when children gift me special things that they have been working on. I treasure each and every gift given from the heart, and this week I would like to share an absolutely stunning piece of observational drawing done by Ashton over at Victory Park. I have laminated this outstanding piece of art and placed it pride of place in my workspace so I can look at it every day. Thank you for sharing your art with me Ashton, I think that you are a very talented artist!
Next week promises to be just as busy & I look forward to sharing the news with you!
