It has been a hive of activity at Island Bay School and the Learning Hub recently! With a strong focus on health & well-being this term, there have been a number of classes coming into the Learning Hub eager to learn more about the human body. We were delighted to welcome Dr. Catherine Buyck back to the Learning Hub to talk to Rachel & Haydens class about the Human Anatomy, and we spent a lot of time taking a close look at some animal organs from Island Bay Butchery. We examined the organs in great detail and talked about the jobs our our human equivalent organs have, it was a lot fun!
The children also had a great time at our Whacky Wednesday day last week. I can assure you that there were some wonderfully weird & whacky costumes to look at whilst the children took part in the Island Bay School skipathon.
Rachel's Curious Minds (Junior REACH Program) group did some amazing book work on the human brain last Friday, completing some very complex and detailed drawings showcasing what they had learnt. They really enjoyed taking a close look at a sheep brain, brain stem, and cerebellum.
I spent a lovely afternoon with Shanon's class taking a closer look in small groups at some animal organs, and talking to the children about how the digestive system works. Did you know that the digestive system measures 9 meters in length? I had a lot of fun measuring out 9 meters of string and stretching it in order to see how long that actually was with both Shannon & Penny's classes.
There has been a lot of learning and fun going on in the Learning Hub, please do pop in and visit us we would love to see you and share our learning with you!
